Engagement With the Community

In the past year, The Jazz Workshop, Inc. has been actively engaged in the community, delivering a variety of impactful events. We hosted several interactive assemblies at the Pioneer Education Center. This is a facility where children have multiple disabilities. They are a lively group and appreciate the music that is brought to them. The students are free to dance, sing along, and play handheld instruments. The principal and staff also enjoy the music and love to engage in the fun.

Concerts for Seniors

The JWI held a concert at Vintage Senior Center, and performances at multiple nursing homes. Vintage is a center where seniors who are mobile can attend and interact with others within their age range. They love to dance and sing along as well, as they hear music from a multigenerational perspective.

Our schedule also included four months of weekly concerts at the Carnegie Library in Homewood from June through July, and Jazz on Larimer, from August through September. We have a huge following and the community really looks forward to these events.

We had a performance at the Community Empowerment Association, performances at Market Square, the Frick, and a grand 50th-anniversary concert at the Billy Strayhorn Theatre. This celebratory event featured renowned artists including multi-Grammy nominee drummer Bobby Sanabria, pianist Mala Waldron, vibraphonist Jay Hoggard, and bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan.
